Wonderful Dark and Autumn
Willows are so proud of their nocturnal animal display! Paintings, shapes, fact finding, writing and shadows!
We have continued developing and exploring using our printing skills. This time we made a tawny Owl each. Some are perching and some are swooping just like Mother Owl in Owl Babies.
We have been exploring the number 5 by making our own track games, collecting acorns for squirrels and storing them in piles as well as owl sorting and counting.
We made our own hedgehogs out of clay and then built a home for them to hibernate in.
Patterns and Poppies.
This week we have been making patterns with all sorts of objects.
We also learnt about Remembrance Day and the reason people wear poppies. We made our own Poppy Wreath.
We sequenced the story, It Was a Cold, Dark Night and then told each other the story. We made homes for the animal characters in our woodland role play area too. 🙂
Making fireworks for Bonfire Night!
Meeting Ned the hedgehog in our book, It Was a Cold, Dark Night
We have also been exploring this time of year - Autumn. From sorting and counting leaves, colour mixing to match Autumn colours, Leaf rubbings, seed collecting, squirrel maths games, web winding on pumpkins, caching conkers in a minute with tweezers, making birthday crowns and finding out which month and season we were born in ....and so much more!
We started our topic, The Wonderful Dark, by reading the book “The “Cave”. We had circle time to talk about our feelings of the dark. Then Mrs. Spence just gave us a load of boxes, tunnels and different material...what were we going to do with that?!

We found out that by talking, listening and asking questions to each other we could make our own class cave! It was great fun!
