All About Me……

I have been teaching in local Forest of Dean schools for the last 19 years. I have previously been part of a strong leadership team that has worked hard to achieve a good to outstanding OFSTED and Outstanding SIAMS reports. I will use this experience to build on the existing strong school ethos at Ruardean and work with staff, parents/carers and governors to provide a stimulating, enjoyable and fulfilling education for the children whilst promoting Christian values.

I live locally and enjoy spending time with my wife and four children and where possible find time to ride my motorbike!

All About Me……

I have previously been a Vice Chair of Governors at another local primary school, being part of the journey taking that school from Special Measures to Good.

I’m excited to join to be part of this journey.

In my day job, I am a Continuous Improvement Lead working for Defence company. I specialise in making business improvements using data led projects.

I have close links with Ruardean, my wife grew up in the area and my father in law stills lives in the village.

I have two children, both at a local secondary school. I am a very keen cyclist.

If you have any questions about governance and the role we play, please feel free to contact me.

All About Me……

I moved to the Forest when I was appointed Rector of the villages of Ruardean, Drybrook and Lydbrook in November 2018. I have been in full time church ministry since 1986 and before that was a State Registered Nurse, and Registered Sick Children’s nurse.

I’ve always enjoyed working with children and their families both within and beyond the church.

Within our 3 parishes we have 5 primary schools. With Ruardean being a church of England Primary School we have particularly strong links and are able to explore together the special relationship between school and parish.

As Rector I get to know many people in the village and it’s good to have those links with school families too. I currently lead the Messy Church team, finding ways to make church more accessible to children and families and encouraging adults to recognise the importance of children’s spiritualty.

I love to be outdoors and enjoy walking, cycling and swimming. At home I enjoy cooking and have the occasional creative moment!

All About Me……

I retired from full-time employment in May 2014 after a 40 years local government career in democratic services working for a variety of councils (District, Metropolitan County and Unitary) supporting decision making, governance and propriety. I moved to Ruardean from Bristol in August 2002 when my involvement in the Church and local community began. I was licensed as a Reader (Lay Minister) in September 2012 and part of my role within the Church is that of Preacher. My vision is to assist in nurturing links between school and church through promotion of the Christian message and assisting in monitoring and sharing the Christian foundation values and ethos of the school.

I am a member of the Open the Book Team who enact Bible stories at assemblies two or three times a term and I periodically attend Collective Worship.

I am a member of Ruardean Carnival Committee, the Royal Forest of Dean Rotary Club and the Royal Forest of Dean Herbert Howells Society (having an interest in Choral music).

My leisure interests include swimming and cycling especially local trails around the Forest and South/Mid Wales.

All About Me……

I grew up in the Forest of Dean, and after some years away moved back 3 years ago to live on The Pludds in the family home of my partner Ian Watkins. Our 3 children attended Ruardean Primary school, although now only 1 still attends with the others now moved on to secondary.

I work for Wesleyan Assurance Society as the Head of Data & Analytics, looking after a great team and helping Wesleyan achieve it ambitions. Working flexibly has enabled me to be part of the school by becoming a parent governor and give back some of my time to help the school continue to be successful.

When I am not working you will find me either horse riding, walking the dogs or gardening and feel privileged to be able to enjoy the wonderful countryside we live in.
