Welcome to Beeches!
A very Happy New Year to you all and welcome to the Spring Term!
This term we will be developing fieldwork skills to explore our local area of beautiful Ruardean. This will involve looking at different maps and using them to spot physical and human features in our local community. We will also learn to draw simple maps and improve our understanding of where Ruardean is with comparison to the rest of the UK. We will think about what is great about our community but also how we can make it even better.
Later in the term, we will be focusing on history ‘When Granny was a girl.’ We are hoping to interview one of our Grandparents to find out what life was like for them when they were a child. If you think you could help with this, then please let me know.
We will be sketching landscapes in Art and learning about the season of winter and habitats in Science.
It’s going to be a very busy and exciting term!
As a school we will be continuing to focus on our listening skills and good learning behaviour. We will be learning techniques that help us to be mindful and focus on our learning.

How can you help your child at home?
*Read regularly with your child, discuss a range of books and practise high frequency words/common exception words
*Help them to learn their spellings. Practise writing them in different ways using colours/paint/chalks etc
*Practise the skills in their ‘Maths Passport’
*Carry out independent research on our topic to help encourage and enthuse your child.
If you have any questions, please come and see me! I look forward to teaching your children and working alongside you this year,
Rainbow maths is designed to improve childrens' mental recall of number facts. This term we are working on multiplication and division facts. You can download the document below and allow your child to practise and gain quicker recall. We give the children 4 minutes to complete one section.
Can you beat your score and time?
We do 'Rainbow Maths' in school everyday. If your child gets 25 out of 25 for 5 sessions in a row, they move onto the next level!
